About us

Lake Chahafi Resort is located on the shore of lake Chahafi in Kisoro South Eastern direction close to Rwanda border and has a twin lake called Lake Kayumbu.

Located 11 kilometres to Cyanika border and Kisoro airstrip and 17 and 22 Kilometres to Muhabura and Ntebeko gate at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Owing to the conditions of the road we budget for 40 minutes transfer to Mgahinga and 20 minutes to cyanika border and Kisoro airstrip.

Lake Chahafi is endowed with a lush vegetation cover of papyrus and water lilies that are home to rare birds like canary, Lesser Jacana, warbler and cisticolas etc Lying low between two swamp covers in southern and northern shores of lake Chahafi and papyrus around the lake. Chahafi is a birders paradise with the background of the outstanding Mt. Muhabura with early morning sun rise views and evening sunset views that are not to be missed.

The Northern shore at Murora Hill was a fortified base during World War1 where the Anglo Belgian coalition force fought against the Germans who had attacked from Rwanda on January 1st 1915. Trenches can still be seen.

The resort is seated on 3 acres of developed land with possibility of expansion on additional three acres of undeveloped land.

The resort has a lush garden with a well-stocked bar and restaurant, 8 Cabins ecologically built with wooden floors erected on stilts and permanent en suite bathrooms and see through French doors to allow for outdoor views.

Out of the 8 Cabins, 4 are double rooms fitted with king size beds and furnished with bedside tables and lampshades and covered with thick layer beds. Hot water bottles are provided to keep you warm.

Four other rooms are twin rooms and also fitted with bedside tables, reading tables and veranda chairs to allow you relax as you enjoy the volcano views. One triple room with three beds is still under construction and will be complete by end of September.

The resort has proper running water with both hot and cold showers and is connected to both hydroelectric and solar water heaters.
